How to Make Bold PNG Text Overlays for Thumbnails & Slides

Layam Game Studio · August 16, 2026

Whether you're editing a video thumbnail or a presentation deck, the job is the same: you need a short piece of text for a thumbnail or a text for a presentation that reads instantly, sits cleanly over any background, and doesn't require you to fight with layer masks. A transparent text maker like Sticker Studio gets you there in one export.

4 Typography Rules for High Click-Through Rate (CTR) Thumbnails

  1. Keep it to 2–5 words. A thumbnail is read in under a second — "TOP 5", "I WAS WRONG", "DON'T DO THIS" work because they're instantly scannable. Long sentences just become texture.
  2. Contrast beats color-matching. A bright fill with a thick, dark outline reads over almost any footage. Matching your text color to your brand palette matters less than making sure it's legible over a busy frame.
  3. Outline and shadow do the separating. Flat text blends into photos and video stills. A heavier outer border and a soft drop shadow are what actually lift the text off the background — push both up in the Color & Outline Settings panel until the text pops on your specific thumbnail image.
  4. Design for the smallest size it'll be seen at. Most viewers see your thumbnail as a tiny mobile-feed image, not full-screen. Zoom your preview out — or shrink the browser window — and check it's still readable small before you commit to a font size.

How to Export Transparent Text into Canva, CapCut, or Premiere

The workflow is the same everywhere — style your text in Sticker Studio, hit Download Transparent PNG, then bring the file into your editor of choice:

Adding Text Badges & Watermarks to Slide Presentations

The same transparent PNG approach works well for recurring elements across a slide deck — a "NEW" badge, a speaker name tag, or a small corner watermark:

If you're placing the same badge on every slide, style it once, then use Save Current Settings in Sticker Studio to store that exact look as a preset — next time you need to tweak the wording, reload the preset instead of rebuilding the style from scratch.
